Villa Matti is a new 36-unit rental apartment building for senior citizens, financed through U.S.government H.U.D.grants. The project is currently in construction.
Each of the 500 - 550SF one bedroom/one bath units is designed to maximize light and views with corner windows facing towards the surrounding densly built-up urban environment - some with peek-a-boo views of the beach one block away.
Most units have corner windows and one line of apartments are designed to be ccmpletely handicapped accessible. A property management office is located on the first floor and a Social Room & outfoor roof deck is located on the sixth floor. All floors are elevator accessible.
The building has been designed to evoke classic art deco symbols of Miami Beach architecture from the 1930's, inlcuding the porthole windows and concrete overhangs. At the same time contemporary influences of "Miami Beach whimsy' include the random pattern of fixed and operable windows on the front elevation as well as the jauntily angled tops of the front and side elevations.
Villa Matti has also been designed to repond to its immediate architectural context which includes the adjacent Villa Matti
(to the immediate right of the Villa Matti in the street elevation below) and which is also H.U.D. housing for senior citizens. Both buildings are to be managed jointly and will also share a common private courtyard accessible from both buildings.
